====== TATE EXCHANGE - DESIGNING AWARENESS ======   ===== What's new? ===== This workshop aims to explore the tools of a speculative or critical design on a social issue. A tool has been particularly tested: the id wall (version 2). FilmoraGo has also become an interesting tool. ===== Presentation ===== The creative Tate Exchange jam brought together Plymouth College of Art, Vida Lactea and L'Ecole de design. With a duration of 4 hours and on a very broad theme (migrations and homeless) the challenge was to generate very quickly ideas. {{:fr:conducteur_tate_cap.xlsx | Forecast Driver}} 9 students from plymouth college of art were present. The supervising team consisted of Oli, Luc, Elisabeth, Pablo, Florent, as well as a student from the design school (Suzie). The whole process is here: "https://www.youtube.com/embed/O9Q0M5oU4r4" The presentation is here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Y0SRN0nOaPPjyU1ZavPsIJTusbwR05gseZjXG9g_23M/edit#slide=id.g47d62a5a1f_1_0 ===== Procedure and objectives ===== The workshop included a lunch break. The intervention of a visual artist, originally planned to inspire young people, had to be canceled for aircraft requirements. The workshop aimed at both: - to work on a clear and global vision of the subject - To produce ideas quickly and to broadcast them in video - To encourage cooperation between groups === A design that commits to a reflection === If this creative sprint has brought a reflection, it is by no means representative of a complete design process. It is therefore the prerequisite for a design because it poses the right questions. This episode is therefore in the development of a speculative design. For the AYCH project it was a test creativity tools in limited time for the creative jam of Gijón and other local creative jam ===== Tools ===== ==== ID Wall, an icebreaker tool and creative warm-up by visual stimulation ====   ID Wall has helped speed up projects and guide them from the start. For the participants, it was from the start of the workshop to choose an inspiring photo and justify this choice by using post it. {{ :fr: img_1451.jpg?400 | WALL ID}} ID WALL, accelerator of creativity. The icebreaker tool also allowed the creation of groups according to the affinities of subjects of each other. Finally, by using visual stimuli, id wall can accelerate creativity. Of course this tool restricts the creativity that is directed upstream by the choice of photos - done upstream. Creativity is supported by a user track reproduced on the ID wall. === Brainstorming and workspace ===   The photos chosen were the starting point for a brainstorming (see elsewhere). The workspace has been configured to facilitate creativity: possibility to write on the tablecloths, vertical supports for collages, possibility to eat on the photos of the ID wall ... the idea is to vary the postures and promote exchanges. {{ :fr: img_7767.jpg?400 |}} {{ :fr:img_1713.jpg?400 |}} {{ :fr:img_2972.jpg?400 |}} === Development of the idea and tools === The idea could then be developed and fixed by means of ideas sheets developed at SPACE in a previous workshop. {{ :fr: x10_idea_card.pdf | IDEA CARD}} Supported as part of a user scenario: {{ :fr: x1_space_little_workshop.pdf | SCENARIO CARDS}} It was then fixed as part of a poster developed since the feedback of the workshop to SPACE: {{ :fr: x10_final_poster_.pdf | POST}} But the poster has been widely diverted by a very creative public: {{ :fr: img_9991.jpg?400 |}} Finally the jury was formed to give feedback on projects (Florent Orsoni, Curator PCA, PCA guest professor). ==== Results ====   The unfolding of the creative sequence allowed us to come up with interesting ideas on an unclear topic. They were facilitated largely by the ID wall, demonstrating the relevance of the tool on short reflection times. * see and be seen: a photo showing a look was the starting point of the reflection around open shelters allowing exchanges {{ :fr: img_2072.jpg?400 |}} {{ :fr:img_3357.jpg?400 |}} Video presentation of the concept: to note the difficulties of use of Filmora: https://youtu.be/UtdieG-KX4M * Hidden skills: really recognize the skills of each other (more difficult subject to support). https://youtu.be/-jFAB657InM * The media: to reconfigure different and positive content about migrants, contrary to the usual treatments. https://youtu.be/JQVbKC-7L3U ===== Balance sheet ===== ==== Communication ====   The very rich reflections for the theme (the look, the media, the hidden skills) were difficult to communicate in the given time. On the other hand, it was clearly a speculative design for thinking about a problem rather than a solution design. ==== Validations and projection of tools for Gijon ====   The Wall ID served as a project accelerator. It will be further developed in Gijon. The idea sheet allowed to synthesize the project, the scenario too. We have tested opted for a facilitator per table: this idea will be retained at the creative jam / hackathon day of Gijon. The skill of "making a video to express your idea / scenario quickly" was a successful and appreciated exercise. Filmora has been generally easy to handle. This idea will be taken again at the hackathon day of Gijon. {{ :fr: img_3399.jpg?400 |}} {{ :fr: img_1101.jpg?400 |}} The notion of speculative design as the beginning of a design reflection will then be reinterpreted and reused with the sequence of the [[en:gijonapril2019 | bright mirror / hackathon day sequence in Gijon]].
